Use Siri To Search For Gadgets.

We have posted a lot about the amazing powers of Siri, how it can do things like turning on a fireplace or control a Mac device.. But all of this requires a Siri Proxy which is now legally available after the new iOS 5.0.1..

And for the average user who hasn't installed Siri proxy, there's still Wolfram Alpha. Recently adding a new cool feature, it allows users to do a number of things with Apple's new handset.

A new shopping-aid feature has been announced by the company which is behind Wolfram Alpha. The feature is built around Best Buy's product catalogue APIs which means that it will enable users to use Siri to browse over 35000 appliances and electronics. Fascinating.

Now this is very easy to try, you just need to activate Siri from your iPhone 4S and pronounce "Wolfram Tablets" or "Wolfram TVs". Not just these, you can swap out the accompanying search terms for a number of items.

While you are likely to find this feature handy, there are some drawbacks that you might not notice. For example, it's just a search and doesn't add any web links. Queries for small items like games and TV shows would not yield any suitable results.

Wolfram's Best Buy integration might be a sign of good things to come. How cool it would be if we could do our college assignments using Siri or look up restaurant menus. I expect Siri to achieve great things in the future.
